Description

The Coleoptera collection of the Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden offers fascinating insights into one of the most species-rich animal groups on Earth.

Containing around 80,000 species and approximately two million specimens from all zoogeographical regions, the collection documents the enormous diversity of beetles worldwide. A particular focus lies on weevils (Curculionoidea), including important historical collections and scientifically valuable type specimens.

Brilliant colours, extraordinary body forms and delicate preparations highlight the importance of scientific collections for biodiversity research, taxonomy and nature conservation. Visitors are invited to discover rare specimens and talk with scientists about research, collection management and the significance of entomological archives.
