Frogs - paving the way for scientific discovery

At the Cluster of Excellence Physics of Life (PoL) at TU Dresden, experts from the fields of physics, chemistry, biology and computer science work together to understand life down to its smallest components. What principles do cells follow to organise themselves in the body? How do cells ‘communicate’ with each other to form organs? Why does the heart beat on the left side and how do the laws of physics influence our DNA?
These and many more questions are being explored by researchers at PoL.

Description

We will explain how frogs (an animal model in the lab) develop from an egg to a full adult and how cell migration and environment properties are important in development. We will have some cool frog embryos, videos of moving cells, activities to see how the physics influence cell movement and development puzzles. You can also join us to make your own jumping frog origami!
