Description

How can medications and dosages be tailored directly to an individual to optimize their effect on that person’s unique physiology—all in a map format? How can we reduce pharmaceutical animal testing? PD Dr. Claudia Dittfeld from the Research Department of Cardiac Surgery at TU Dresden, Dr. Florian Schmieder, a researcher at Fraunhofer IWS, and their colleagues will answer these questions for you. They’ll assist you on the rowing machine as you test your own heart cells, and also with the digital game as you “fill” a lab-on-a-chip system yourself.

‘A beating heart on a chip – how miniature laboratories are transforming medicine’.

In their joint presentation, PD Dr. Claudia Dittfeld (Department of Cardiac Surgery, TU Dresden, tu-dresden.de/med/mf/hzc) and Dr. Florian Schmieder (Fraunhofer IWS) will take you on a journey through the human heart and demonstrate the technical possibilities for replicating this organ’s functions on a chip.
