Description

We want to explore the origin of matter. To this end, we are examining historical milestones that have significantly influenced our understanding of particles and light, particularly in the context of “pair production” - the conversion of light into mass. At the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, we are researching this phenomenon using modern experiments and novel theoretical approaches to deduce what it means for our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature.

DALI has the potential to become a globally unique, high-field radiation source based on accelerated electrons for intense terahertz radiation. Its purpose: the experimental investigation and control of materials on ultrafast timescales. In this introductory lecture, we will explain how we are using these ultrafast laser pulses to search for the “flying horses” of quantum physics.
