Description

The ornithological collection of the Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden contains around 91,000 objects, including bird skins, skeletons, eggs, nests and feather preparations from around the world. The collection also includes rare and extinct bird species such as passenger pigeons and great auks.

Dr. Martin Päckert, head of the ornithology section, presents selected objects from the collection and shares insights into his research on bird vocalisations, evolution and biodiversity. Alongside historical specimens, the programme also addresses current scientific questions related to bird diversity and avian research.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a collection area that is usually not accessible to the public and to speak with scientists about their work.
