Description

Tracing the past: the paleozoology section of the Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden explores what trace fossils can reveal about ancient environments and Earth’s history.

The focus lies on fossil traces such as burrows, drill holes, footprints and other evidence of prehistoric life. Unlike body fossils, trace fossils provide information about behaviour, habitats and environmental conditions from long past geological eras. Selected specimens demonstrate how scientists use these traces to reconstruct ancient ecosystems.

Visitors are also invited to bring their own fossils – including holiday finds, beach fossils or objects discovered in attics – for identification and discussion on site.
