Description

Autism effects about 1 in 100 people worldwide. Many autistic people experience everyday sensory stimuli – sounds, light, smells or touch – much more intensely than neurotypical individuals. This so-called hypersensitivity can lead to sensory overload, which can feel overwhelming and exhausting. But the opposite is also possible: a condition known as hyposensitivity, in which certain stimuli are barely perceived or not at all.
See for yourself: Experience what sensory overload might feel like in a short self-experiment and then test your knowledge in an interactive quiz.
