Here, we explore the skin of springtails and the strategies they use to prevent the invasion of microorganisms. These unique mechanisms inspire approaches to reduce the transmission of disease-causing bacteria.

Large Molecules for Small Particles: Polymer Research Meets Nanotechnology

Nanoparticles are extremely small, about one millionth of a millimeter, and are becoming increasingly important in technology. They are used in modern displays and medical tests such as rapid diagnostics. To process them from solutions, their stability is essential. This station shows how polymer molecules help stabilize nanoparticles and enable innovative applications in nanotechnology.

Wrinkles - not only a question of age

In daily life, we see wrinkles everywhere in different shapes and sizes. Two examples are the human fingerprint and shark skin.

At our station, we want to show you, how we can introduce wrinkles on elastomer surfaces on purpose using plasma. We can image these wrinkles with a scanning probe microscope with a nanometer accuracy. Applications for our wrinkled surfaces are, e.g., antibacterial functions or reduction of friction.
