Hygiene and Efficiency United: Sustainable Technologies for Food Processing Plants

Sustainable production? Of course! But how can processing plants for food production be cleaned with fewer resources and still be hygienically flawless? And how can packaging made from new materials be sealed if the machines are still set up for conventional films? The TUD is researching this with the Fraunhofer IVV and demonstrating technologies that have been developed to support the food industry in resource-saving production.

description

The Mobile Cleaning Device (Exo-MCD) was developed as an autonomous cleaning robot for cleaning hygienic production environments. With the help of sensors, it recognises its environment and cleans surfaces independently according to their level of soiling, using only as much cleaning agent as is needed. The process and the result are documented and passed on to the staff. This means that fewer specialised staff can monitor several cleaning processes at the same time.

New technologies are needed to seal recyclable monofilms or coated papers into packaging, as their material behaviour differs from conventional films. Among other things, a machine for high-impulse sealing (HIS) has been developed, which can seal the material watertight by applying a single, rapid mechanical pressure. The demonstrator can be tried out live in the technical centre
