Is snow our battery of tomorrow?

You are probably familiar with the consistency of a slush ice drink. It's almost a bit like snow. Slush ice is similar - a liquid ice which, thermodynamically speaking, is an excellent energy store. As part of the energy transition, it can help to stabilise the power grid. At the LNDW, we will show you how snow or liquid ice works as an energy storage medium.

description

Slurry ice is a liquid ice which, thermodynamically speaking, is an excellent energy storage medium. In the course of the energy transition, ice can help to stabilise the power grid or ensure the provision of cooling when there is a particular load requirement. Ultimately, it can even be used as a snow substitute for sporting events. At the LNDW, we will show you how ice works as an energy storage system. Incidentally, ice as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly storage medium plays a key role in a variety of development projects at the ILK Dresden. Some examples are Ice through solar energy for sustainable fishing in Indonesia (giz.de), www.giz.de/de/mediathek/97240.html, Pumpable vacuum liquid ice www.ilkdresden.de/projekt/vakuum-fluessigeis-technologie
