A Virtual Bubble Playground

During a live simulation of a rising gas bubble simulation parameters can be adjusted, so that bubble rising velocity, shape and breakup behaviour can be playfully influenced.

description

Very often, the little things cause the highest demands and challenges for scientist. A good example of this are bubbles, such as air bubbles in water, whose complex physics pose a great challenge. Although, bubbles are widely used to improve technical processes or to make them possible in the first place. One way to gain deep insight into the bubble dynamics are numerical simulations, for which the biggest high performance computers are required. At the exhibition booth, we offer the possibility to discuss with the scientists about the fundamental physics of gas bubbles, simulation methods and newest findings. As a highlight, it is possible to live change the parameters of a running simulation to playfully influence the bubble rise velocities, bubble shape and bubble breakup.
