Working Together to Make Science Visible

The Dresden Science Night (Dresdner Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften) is organized by the Dresden - City of Science ("Dresden - Stadt der Wissenschaften") network. Since 2004, the network has brought together science, urban society, business, art, and culture to strengthen and raise the profile of Dresden as a sustainable hub for science and innovation.

The State Capital of Dresden initiated the network, which brings together universities, research institutions, companies, and other partners. Together, these partners create events, collaborations, and projects that make science accessible to the public and promote interaction between researchers and society.

These events are not only about knowledge transfer, but also about encounters, exchange, and how science shapes city life.

Dresden as a Hub for Science

Dresden is one of Germany’s most diverse hubs for science and research. Eleven universities, four Max Planck institutes, five Leibniz institutes, ten Fraunhofer institutes, two Helmholtz centers, and numerous centers of excellence, technology transfer offices, and networks shape the city’s research landscape.

Close collaboration between science, business, and the city creates an environment where innovations emerge and new ideas flourish. The “Dresden – Stadt der Wissenschaften” network's central mission is to make this potential visible and inspire people to engage with science.

Through events such as Dresden Science Night and JUNIORDOKTOR, scientific topics become accessible and tangible for diverse audiences.

Developing Ideas Together

The network is a sustainable collaborative project funded by contributions from its partners. At regular meetings, participants exchange ideas and experiences, develop new formats, and coordinate joint work and financial plans.

In addition to organizing events, the network coordinates cross-location public relations efforts, initiates collaborations, and supports partnerships centered on Dresden as a science hub.

These efforts create a vibrant network that connects science, raises its profile, and drives its future development.

Organization of the Network

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is responsible for overseeing the strategic development of the “Dresden – City of Sciences” network. It also represents the interests of the network partners. The committee advises the coordination team and supports the network’s shared direction.

The committee's composition reflects Dresden's diversity as a center of science, as well as its connections to business, art, and culture.

Coordination

The coordination team supports the implementation of the network’s shared goals and projects. The team facilitates communication among partners, supports the development of new initiatives, and coordinates key projects, such as Dresden’s Long Night of Science.

Additionally, the team serves as the point of contact for external inquiries regarding Dresden as a hub of science and supports the network’s public image.
