An alliance of city, science and business
The Dresden Science Night is organised by the network "Dresden - City of Science".
"Dresden - City of Science" is a network in which elements from the city, science and business form a sustainable alliance. The state capital Dresden, as the initiator of this alliance, founded the network in 2004. The aim is to further profile and publicise Dresden as a sustainable location for science and innovation. This is achieved with scientific events, the establishment and maintenance of cooperations and partnerships as well as with comprehensive press and public relations work. Dresden's scientific potential will be made more aware and tangible to the public than before. The network "Dresden - City of Science" represents a scientific landscape that is one of the most multifaceted in Germany with eleven universities, four Max Planck, five Leibniz and ten Fraunhofer institutes, two Helmholtz facilities, numerous competence centres, technology transfer facilities and other networks. With the support and utilisation of the city and the economy on its side, this research potential is the engine for Dresden's promising future.
A sustainable mix of target group-oriented events and overarching marketing
The network "Dresden - City of Science" is a free project designed for sustainability. The work is financed by the annual contributions of the individual network partners. These meet regularly to exchange ideas and experiences, develop new formats, decide on work and financial plans and thus help to determine the success and further development of the network itself. In its execution, the network organises comprehensive popular science events such as the Dresden Science Night and the JUNIORDOKTOR for schoolchildren, coordinates overarching public relations work and is the contact for external enquiries about Dresden as a science location. It offers platforms for exchanging experiences and initiates and maintains sponsoring partnerships.
Levels for implementing goals and ideas
Steering group
The organisational "head" of the network "Dresden - City of Science" is the steering group. It represents the interests of all network partners, controls and advises the coordinator. In its composition, the steering group reflects Dresden's science in connection with the city, economy, art and culture.

There are various organs for the successful implementation of the goals and ideas of the network "Dresden - City of Science". In addition to the actual network partners, these are the steering group and the coordinator. This organisational structure ensures that ideas are stimulated and implemented, and that the work is continuously carried out and monitored. Last but not least, the coordinator ensures that the network is represented internally and externally in a sustainable and targeted manner.
