description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) attempts as one of the oldest areas of computer science to use knowledge for problem solving and thus simulate human thinking and action on the computer. On the other hand, the somewhat younger area of Virtual Reality (VR) strives to map sections of the world onto the computer via spatiotemporal media and thus address human sensors and actuators. The combination of the two opens up a multitude of interesting practical applications, some of which meanwhile are reaching social dimensions and at the same time raising questions about the nature and destiny of human beings. Where do AI and VR stand today, how have they developed historically, and what does our common future look like?
