Teddy Clinic

Toddlers often fear a doctor´s visit. By adopting the “Teddy-parent-role” they will have the chance to change that perspective. Medical students will examine, cure and advise the sick stuffed animals which the child will bring to our clinic. A small insight into surgery will be provided too and there is no need to make a reservation in advance. We can´t wait to meet you and your teddy!

The concept of a Teddy Clinic was developed in Scandinavia and is a student powered volunteer project at the Uniklinikum Dresden since 2003. It is our goal to playfully show children aged 3-7 how a doctor´s visit works. Usually they have fears or worries when entering a clinic or ambulance. Due to the necessity of regular consultations with a pediatrician many children only have the perspective of being a patient themselves. Therefore, they might associate white coats, pills and injections with mainly negative memories. But when being a parent to their sick stuffed animal they can discover and learn about new perspectives in that field. In the end they hopefully will no longer feel overwhelmed nor overlooked and have a more positive mindset to doctor´s appointments. In order to succeed with this idea, it would be best to prepare the child to this visit by talking about possible scenarios or procedures that happened to the injured teddy. When arriving at the clinic the own stuffed animal will be examined, palpated, bandaged and most likely vaccinated. There is the possibility to ask as many questions as wanted – also in English ;) We are looking forward to see y´all at the UKD House 21, Pediatric & Womens Clinic, 1st floor Room 1-3.
We are kindly supported by the head of the pediatric clinic Prof. Dr. med. Reinhard Berner.
